About MASN
Vision
To see that all school age children and youth in Missouri have access to high quality, sustained afterschool programs.
Mission
To provide a statewide system for the development, implementation and ultimate sustainability of high quality, safe, caring, nurturing afterschool programs for extended experiential learning, academic achievement, social, recreational, and personal life skills development espousing the principals of best practices in youth development, quality care and education for all Missouri students during non-school hours.
Goals & Objectives
Goal One: Foster statewide, regional, and local partnerships at all levels.
Goal Two: Secure resources needed to sustain new and existing afterschool programs.
Objectives
- Identify existing data and compile information about where dollars are being spent and how to be more effective and efficient in their use.
- Identify potential partners and develop a strategic plan for enlisting support from private sector businesses and private foundations to invest in the work of and support for the Network and Partnership.
- Work closely with existing organizations (YouthNet, St. Louis for Kids, 4H Youth Development, Citizens for Missouri’s Children, etc.) to coordinate activities and develop strategic approaches to resource sharing.
- Support state afterschool efforts including the Governor’s Youth Cabinet and assist in the development of the statewide Youth Development Initiative.
- Provide technical assistance to interagency government teams as needed to ensure that their work is aligned with that of the statewide effort and that resources are maximized.
Goal Three Ensure programs are of high quality
Objectives:
- Develop and Implement a statewide system of field support for the purpose of supporting and measurably strengthening the quality of afterschool programs.
- Provide technical assistance, direct support and mentorship to programs and sites throughout Missouri upon request and in accordance with priorities of the Missouri Afterschool Partnership/Network.
- Form and operate a statewide Learning Community made up of Resource Center Consultants and Peer-to-Peer teams, for purposes of development and strengthening of support to programs and sites.
- Identify, develop and disseminate (including training in the use of) curriculum materials for use in after school programs, which are aligned with state standards and regular school day instructional curricula and integrate youth development principles and practices.
- Establish a system for tracking and monitoring work of the Resource Center, including principal forms of support to the field (e.g., technical assistance, training, mentorship, and linking of resources and networks.
- Develop and strengthen connections between after school programs and community resources, resulting in significant new learning opportunities and activities for after school programs.
- Develop new and augment existing written materials on program sustainability and on keys to building successful after school programs, and deliver workshops and provide coaching on the application of the principles contained in these written materials, targeting local school-community partnerships in particular.
- Reach out to key stakeholder groups (e.g., Missouri School Boards Association, Missouri State Teachers Association) by making presentations at their conferences, operating after school exhibitor booths, developing effective working relationships, and writing articles for publications in professional journals in order to strengthen and expand the quality of and support for after school programs.
